WeatherCheater Alpaca Coat Announcement

Now Accepting Fiber Contributions towards Coat Purchases

NEAFP is happy to announce we now are offering our WeatherCheater Alpaca Coats at Fiber Contribution Prices. By contributing the allotted fiber for each coat, our manufacturing costs are reduced and we can offer better prices to our members. When working with Fenwick Manor Farms on the coat's design, it made perfect sense to make a coat out of the Alpaca's Own Fiber, and it makes even more sense to offer price reductions to Alpaca Farms who are already producing the Fiber needed to make these protective coats.

For all those who are unfamiliar with the WeatherCheater, it is Made in the U.S. with 100% North American alpaca fiber. It has been carefully designed to mimic the benefits of an alpaca's own fleece & will protect against cold, wind and severe weather for many seasons. The natural fiber allows the skin to "breathe", reducing sweating and easing temperature fluctuation.

The WeatherCheater silently hugs the body against drafts, without crinkling or flapping. Its neutral scent is more easily accepted and doesn't interfere with Mother/Cria bonding. The three sizes: Cria, Weanling and Adult, have been generously sized to fit a range of animals shorn or in full fleece. Reflective patches make it easier to find your new cria or convalescent adult in low light.

Bringing Your Goods to Market

Fiber Festivals are a great way to introduce Alpaca to a wider audience who already fit into our industry's target demographics. Many of our Farms have reported great success when attending Fiber Festivals as a vendor, selling out the majority of their inventory and building repeat sale relationships with a wide range of customers who otherwise have not been exposed to Made in the U.S. Alpaca Goods. The costs for attending these Festivals is rather low and the return is great, making it a low hanging fruit we encourage everyone to take advantage of.

We are putting together an Event Calendar section on our site to help people locate Fiber Festivals in your local areas, but in the mean time, we encourage you to use sites like Knitter's Review - Upcoming Events

If you do not feel you have the time to attend a Fiber Festival as a vendor, it still is a great networking opportunity. Fill your pocket with business cards, dust off your 30 Second Elevator Pitch, and introduce yourself, animals, farm, and your finished products to the local knitter's. It is not uncommon to end up selling Animals alongside your Finished Goods, and local Fiber Festivals are a perfect venue to do both.

Keep a Farm Blog? Share it with Us!

NEAFP is in the process of re-working our Featured Farm showcase section and we would like to showcase the daily activities of an everyday Alpaca Farmer. A blog is a wonderful tool that allows people to get a closer look at the day to day activities of our favorite pastime and lifestyle, Raising Alpacas. If you have a farm blog we would love to share it with the rest of the community, and build a community of farms across the country. Please email us today with your Farm Site and Blog Information and we will include it in our new section! Email Us Today!
